I've had my Canon S3IS for a couple of years now, and have taken thousands of shots with it. I think it still is a very capable camera, and skipped the Canon S5IS which came out a year later with incremental improvements but no big lens changes. Biow is very happy with her Nikon D40 but we figured we will still need something with super/mega/ultra-zoom and video recording capability. Since Canon seems to have a habit of releasing a new S-series generation every year or so, I thought it was time to look around for any rumoured specifications of an upcoming Canon S6IS or perhaps Canon S7IS, if they decide to skip a number. The talk has been that it was supposed to be released in summer, but that there have been delays due to a complete change in the lens, so this time the jump from S5IS to S6IS might just be a bigger one than the jump from S3IS to S5IS. Picked this up from some comments on Flickr. Canon S6IS specs (unconfirmed) : Sensor Size: 1/2.3" An 18X optical zoom would be quite a significant improvement over the current 12X, which would make it a whopping 648mm equivelant compared to the current 436mm. Some people have also been talking about a switch to lithium-ion batteries instead of AA, though this seems a little out of character for the PowerShot family. But of course, all these are just unconfirmed rumours at this point. Guess we will just have to wait and see what the actual specs will be when it comes out. (2008-09-17 13:20:09 SGT)
