Singapore hopes for Russian LNG supplies

en.rian.ru :

Singapore hopes to receive supplies of Russian liquefied natural gas in the future, the country's trade and industry minister said. Lim Hng Kiang said after a meeting with Russian Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref that an LNG terminal would be built in his country by 2012. "Russia could become an LNG supplier to Singapore. We hope Singapore will become a good base for Russia's oil and gas companies," he said.

Gref said Russia would soon complete the construction of a gas liquefying plant on the far-eastern island of Sakhalin and would start exploring the Shtokman deposit, which holds an estimated 3.2 trillion cubic meters of natural gas and 31 million metric tons of gas condensate in the northern Barents Sea. Given Singapore's excellent transparent links, Gref said cooperation between the Asian country and Russian companies was "quite logical."

- Well, "I told you so". Thanks to simontay78 for pointing out this news article. Now that's really getting down to business, our gov.sg people sure didn't waste any time on beating round the bush did they.

There was previously in the news about Sweden getting oil independent. Now Finnish decision makes are talking similary. I'll translate the news.

Kokoomus party's (conservative) chairman Jyrki Katainen says Finland should cut itself loose of oil dependance. Katainen supports the proposal of [finance] minister Eero Heinaluoma that Finland should pursue to get rid of oil by 2030. So Finland would follow the footsteps of Sweden. Katainen thinks Finland should invest on research and become "great power of bioenergy". News in Finnish

A$2,000 subsidy to convert cars to run on LPG

business-times.asia1.com.sg :

The Australian government is offering motorists up to A$2,000 (S$2,408) to convert their cars to run on liquid petroleum gas, as spiralling global oil prices cause the costs of petrol to soar. Prime Minister John Howard said that his government will spend A$1.576 billion over the next 8 years developing alternative fuel sources. The centrepiece of the plan is a scheme to encourage drivers to switch to LPG, which is in abundant supply in Australia given the country's natural gas and oil reserves. Cash grants of A$1,000 will be awarded for new LPG vehicles. The government will also contribute A$2,000 toward the A$2,500 to A$4,000 cost of converting existing vehicles to use LPG.
