Indonesia to hold tender for nuclear plant in 2008

english.people.com.cn :

The Indonesian government will hold a tender in 2008 to select suitable suppliers of nuclear technology and contractors to construct the 15 trillion rupiah (US$1.66 billion) power plant in Central Java.

The Nuclear Power Implementation Agency would be responsible for preparing the tender and selecting reliable suppliers of safe technology suppliers for the project, which will be able to generate 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity, The Jakarta Post said. The government is hoping to commence construction of the power plant in 2010, with it expected to come on-stream in 2017.

en.rian.ru :

Russia is ready to take part in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Indonesia, to be announced by 2008, the country's nuclear chief said. Russia and Indonesia signed an agreement to cooperate in the nuclear energy sphere during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on a three-day visit to Russia.

Russia's Atomstroyexport, which is currently building five nuclear power plants in China, India and Iran on contracts worth $4.5 billion, won a tender to build two 1,000-megawatt reactors in Bulgaria on October 30.

- Singapore's neighbours are going nuclear. We should, too.
