Scattered reports around the web suggest that there may be a possible upcoming 2015 Lamborghini Gallardo hybrid super-car that was disclosed by the Lamborghini CEO in a recent German magazine interview : peakoil.com -> forecastfortomorrow.com : Lamborghini is jumping on the hybrid wagon by announcing that the Gallardo would be available in hybrid form in 2015 ... at slow speed, the electric engine will take over (traffic, city ...) and the gas engine will be used in more demanding situations. Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that his company would not produce an all-electric car at the moment without saying why. Ferrari has already announced a hybrid model, scheduled to appear in 2015 as well. In a recent interview with the German Magazine Automobilewoche, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that Lamborghini is planning to launch a hybrid Gallardo ... he stated that the new hybrid will consist of a small electric motor for slow moving urban traffic but will switch to its V-10 or V-12 engine when on the open road. - Apparently Lamborghini is trying to jump on to the hybrid bandwagon without *really* jumping on. As described, this is an either/or electric-car / sports super-car. As in, the electric part is entirely wasted at cruising speeds on the highway, with the motor and batteries being dead weight, whilst the gasoline motor is conversely a dead weight in the Prius-like city/stealth electric mode. An odd beast certainly. I wonder how the hybrid fan community will classify this one - not quite a Type II hybrid and not quite a Type III hybrid. Let's see how it turns out if/when they do release it. (2009-08-11 22:22:25 SGT)
