energybulletin.net -> telegraph.co.uk : San Francisco is the Prince of Wales's "kinda place". He loves its public transport, declaring yesterday: "I'm so glad you still have the wonderful evocative sounds of the trams." It is a city where "environment", "organic", "sustainable" - indeed all the buzz words that excite him - are common parlance. The prince has many supporters here, so where best to deliver the most powerful speech of his tour than a seminar on "peak oil, climate change and business action"? The prince said: "We simply can't go on as we are. Somehow we have to find the courage to reassert the once commonplace belief that human beings have a duty to act as the stewards of creation." Speaking at one of his final engagements before he and the Duchess of Cornwall return to Britain, the prince urged America to reshape its economy to help the environmental cause. - Prince Charles adds immeasurably to the stature of the global peak oil community, which can no longer be dismissed as just a fringe bunch of doomers, survivalists, and oddballs. In the past few weeks, we have had a Federal Reserve Chairman, a President, and a Prime Minister speak out on the Peak Oil issue. Looking for legitimacy? A cause celebre? Not really. Let's just say that we are concerned citizens - of Planet Earth - which happens to be the only one we have at the moment. There are those of us preparing for the worst (gotta do what one's gotta do), there are those of us putting our money where our mouth is (sometimes I will introduce Peak Oil as a "rather profitable hobby" *grinz*), and there are those of us going around spreading the word. For the latter, the community should already be familiar with the investment bank CEO, the professor, the geologist, the author, the lawyer, and the oil company VP. See also : 1.
