on ken's development (2.5yo)..

it's hard to talk about your child without sounding braggy rite?.. heh.. but i will try.. warning: long post ahead..

Physically..

• ken has grown taller.. 88cm now.. 2cm more and we hv to start paying for his bus/mrt ride or even cinema.. walao.. 90cm is very short still, u know? And, ken is on the lower growth path.. so young alreadie need to make them pay for all these "services".. sigh..
• on last check (sometime mid-dec 2005) he was abt 11.3kg.. but he seems way way heavier.. mabbe cos after we carry wenn and then carry ken, "woah!".. get what i mean.. ken just seem VERY heavy
• ken is ALWAYS on the move.. if he's not jumping, he's running.. if he's not running, he's rolling along side Wenn.. i'm glad we got those sofa set.. it's very bouncy and he can go jumping and jumping like on a trampoline.. yes, i'm spoiling him rotten.. :P
• ken is also able to climb like a monkey very well now. He can climb up the ladder up to the highest step.. whereas his mommy only can muster the courage to climb 2 steps before feeling like falling off!!.. ken can also climb our gate (singapore hsing gate is not like those house's gate) right up to the top if we allow him too.. and while he's abt midway, he will arch his back and say something like "like a monkey".. cos, i commented to EM, "he's like a monkey now, ya?"
• ken can self-feed his fav food like yoghurt, snacks, fries, etc.. tell him to eat real meal (rice and dishes) on his own, his hand will grow limp.. sigh.. this need improvement..
• all his primary teet have emerged.. check ken's teething chart out.. :D
• ken can only pull down his shorts, he can't dress himself yet.. he attempt to wear his own shoes.. but most of the times to impatient to run to be bothered to wear properly by himself..
• ken is sooooooooo potty-trained.. too well i would say that he can't just pee standing up.. sigh.. he will shift his weight on both his legs and lun and lun until a potty is whipped out.. sigh.. even carrying him over the toilet bowl he will lun.. he just can't pee.. he will clutch his penis and cry (and beg) for his potty.. sigh.. twice, over at the causeway notorious jam.. we wore him pull-ups (diaper), but he simply refused to pee..
  once was, on a short trip to JB, so he cried and cried until he fell asleep.. from woodlands to our place in sengkang.. we only reached home 1 hr later.. he actually held his pee for so long.. once home, he peed until like half the potty full..
  then this other time, from melaka.. again we stuck in the stupid causeway jam.. this time, i ask EM to get the potty from the boot.. EM was hesistant.. i tell ya, after rumaging the boot and gotten the potty, the car in front still hv not move a single inch.. damn bloody jammed i tell ya..
  but the good thing is he's off diaper day and nite.. for nite, we must remember to bring him to potty before he sleeps.. else, he will wake up crying in the middle of the night!! and, I am the one who suffer.. so, dearest hubby of mine, dun say i very naggy ah.. pls pls remember to bring him to potty before he sleeps!!

Emotionally..

• ken is definitely able to label feelings.. whenever didi cry, he's the first to be alerted cos his ears are very sharp.. he will sign at the same time say, "didi cry cry.. waa waa"..
• he sometimes will hv meltdown sessions.. he will cry uncontrollably.. most of the time i just leave him alone to cry.. cos i'm a cry baby as well.. just leave me alone until i'm somewhat "collected"..
• he loves playing with other children.. big or small.. he just chase them all.. he's ever so friendly in the playground.. not shy one.. will approach others and want to play with them.. unfortunately, not all want to play with him.. dunno where he learn to be so frenly.. his parents definitely aren't.. :D..

Learning wise....

• ken is definitely expanding his vocabulary.. but not forming sentence yet.. besides putting two words together like, "neigh neigh horse", "moo moo cow", his other favorite will be "help, please".. exasperated calls.. esp when he wants you to open the fridge door for him.. or, the store room door!!! his favorite door to open.. very scary cos my store room is ceiling high full of junk stuff and i dun want them falling on him.. ken will always look around in awe at all the stuff, wondering which item he can demand us to take down for him to explore.. *eyes rolling*.. demanding little man, we have there.. as a result of his demand, the pooh collection has been his ever since he lay his eyes on them.. DOH..
• ken is able to name the different part of his body.. his favorite being "belly BUTton" (emphasizing loudly on the but of but-ton).. and he will twiddle with his every time he's bored, before his nap, before he sleeps.. self-pleasure? i guess..
• ken is able to identify the colors of rainbow.. thanks to Signing Time #6 - My Favorite Things DVD
• he just started to understand the concept of opposite.. or rather we just start to notice that he understand some opposites.. e.g. we bot some animals picture cards.. on the card, the top border is light green border and the bottom a dark blue border.. he points to the lighter border and say "on the light" and the darker border he said, "good night".. very cute hor?.. i must get EM to video this.. heh..
• and he loves documentary.. EM has this documentary on jet fighter? (*yawn*.. i switched off immediately when i hear the starting.. heh..).. ken can sit thru and so fascinated.. yesterday, i caught father and son ken watching some documentary on penguins (?!?).. ken can imitate how penguin walk.. VERY cute as well.. aiya.. need to get EM to video that as well.. ken is at the notti phase where he knows u want to video him, he either run away or stop.. grr.. and it does not help that each time the dad gave warnings like whipping the camera out from the noisy velcro cover, or switching on the living room lights or if without warning, guess what?! FLAT batteries!!!.. grrrr.. :D.. part and parcel of parents trying to capture memories of their kiddos.. but who am i to complain where yours truly has the shakiest hands on earth.. ha ha.. i never eat chicken feet and i hv shaky hands.. how come ah?!?
• lastly, on prompting from marie and laramie (hey, the name rhymes!), i kiasu-ly rushed to popular bookstore to buy 2 "real" story books for ken.. before these two, most of ken's books are those board books.. no story type.. err, except mabbe "Goodnite, Moon".. that one consider story? no also, i think.. so, when both of them ask me "hv u read fairy tales to ken?", i panicked.. ke ke.. i'm so easily panicked even though my mouth said i will be a laidback mom.. ke ke.. what a double-headed snake (hypocrite in hokkien) i am.. surprisingly, ken do sit thru and listen to me.. not actually sit thru kuai kuai lar.. he will run out and in to the room while collecting certain objects mentioned in the book..
  e.g. i read "the shoemaker cut the leather with a snip.." *ken ran out of the room*.. "..snip snap"..
  *ken ran back into the room holding a pair of child-proof scissors in his hands*.. and he say "scissors.. scissors..".. heh.. my gong gong ken is suddenly a bit brighter.. phew!.. i think he's at this stage of very eager to learn.. which brings me to my indecision of "shd i send him to pre-sch now?" or "next year?".. sigh.. i wish in life some answers can be straighforward.. will see how.. (my fav phrase!!)
