my father..

I had always wanted to blog about my dad. I told myself, oh I will blog during his death anniversary (Jan). And I forgot. Then I told myself, his birthday then. His birthday in May came and went and still I don't remember. My dad do not like celebrating his birthday.. (As far as I remembered we only celebrated his birthday once -- his 70th birthday.. see pics below) Then I said, father's day. With all the commercialism, sure to remember. And I forgot again. Then, I resolve, on my birthday then. What better days to remember one's father on his/her birthday? And guess what? Just I knocked off work yesterday, while I crossed the road I just looked at this car plate. I rarely look at car plates - not even when there's accident - this car plate no is the same as my dad's.. some omen to remind me yea? so, no more excuse.. *note to self: must go and buy the number*.. heh..

growing up i always remembered having to tagged along for movies.. think i ever mentioned, my dad used to go cinema (pre-cineplexes days) daily.. then every sunday without fail, he will bring us all (siblings) to the Tg Keling beach.. I suspected it was to get us out from my mom, give my mom some breathing space.. he will ordered 2 coconuts.. 1 for himself and the other is to be shared by the 5 of us.. but i dun remember my older siblings being there.. most of my memory was me and my 2nd sis (immediate sis older to me).. so, we will just be there EVERY sunday..

i missed my dad most when i'm sick.. younger days, i fell sick very often.. and, i can't swallow pills.. so, my dad will always grind for me.. so, i always ate medicine twice only.. morning before my dad leave for work and at night after my dad came back from work.. my mom will have no patience with me.. not only grind, he will make sure i finish all while me whining/grumbling/tantruming away.. he will also go out and tabao wantan mee for me.. and a packet of sng mui (sweet sour plum) so that after eating the bitter grinded plls, i can keep the sng mui in the mouth.. i always imagined that my dad will make a great doctor.. :P..

my dad was also the one who woke me up in the mornings.. used to be my 2nd sis.. but my 2nd sis wasn't good in her studies, so, after her SPM, she starts working and do not have to wake up so early.. My school bus picked me up at 6am.. so, my dad will be always waking me up at 5:30am.. for my mom it's simple.. can't wake up, don't need to go to school.. but for my dad, he just accept and understand our weaknesses (me being a sleepy head).. so, he will always wake me up.. and trust me, I'm not a simple person to be woken.. ke ke..

when we learn driving, he's also ok with us practice driving with his car.. he even self made 4 tiangs (4 sticks) for the parking corners for us to practice.. he will drive us to some deserted area.. i remembered it was a patch of land with red soil.. then after practice parking, just before reached home, he will stop by the road side and feather dust the car.. knowing what a clean freak my mom is, he will kinda make sure the car is not dusty when we reach home to save us from nagging.. :P

whenever we came back with report cards filled with red marks, he will just simply say, "do better next time".. whereas for my mom, every red marks equal one stroke of cane..

2 parents with 2 different parenting style.. needless, to say, we are afraid of both.. one is due to the scolding, nagging and punishment.. the other is we are afraid to disappoint him.. a disappointted look from him will make me want to do better next time.. and, knowing he's always busy with his business.. no rest.. 6 days a week.. and yet, he make time for us..

and so on my birthday, i remember my dad.. i remembered we celebrated our dad's 70th birthday in 2004..
